Privacy Notice

Last updated: 28 July 2026

This notice explains how Dinh Phan ("we", "us"), trading as SnapMyFridge, based in Clarksburg, MD, USA, handles personal data when you use snapmyfridge.com. Dinh Phan is the data controller for the personal data described here.

Data we collect and why

  • Account data (email address, sign-in identifiers from Google where you use Google sign-in) — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • Photos and typed ingredient lists you submit — processed to identify foods and generate recipes. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • Saved recipes, reviews, ratings and taste-profile answers — to provide the features you asked for and personalise recipes. Legal basis: contract, and consent where you volunteer dietary preferences.
  • Scan history — stored only if you switch it on in Settings. Legal basis: consent, withdrawable at any time.
  • Aggregate detection metadata (food types identified, counts, dates) — to monitor accuracy and improve the product. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
  • Support messages and email delivery events — to answer you and to diagnose failed deliveries. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
  • Technical data (IP address, device and browser information, error logs) — for security, abuse prevention and reliability. Legal basis: legitimate interests and legal obligation.

Who we share data with

  • Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of memberships, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
  • Service providers and subprocessors — hosting and database providers, our AI model provider (which processes your photos and ingredient text to return results), email delivery providers, and error-monitoring tooling.
  • Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where necessary.
  • Authorities where we are required to disclose by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some of our providers process data outside your country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK/EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

Retention

Account data and saved content are kept for as long as your account is open. Uploaded photos are used to produce your result and are not retained as a browsable library; scan history is kept only while you keep the setting enabled. Aggregate detection metadata is retained in de-identified form for product analytics. Billing records are retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires. When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Subject to local law you may request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you may withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account and associated data yourself from the Danger Zone in Settings. We respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA you may also complain to your supervisory authority.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, and least-privilege access to production systems. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure.

Cookies

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your settings and enforce usage limits. Our payment provider sets cookies needed to run checkout. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though sign-in will stop working without the essential ones.
